In 1993, Fashion Week moved into the tents at Bryant Park, Barneys opened on Madison Avenue, and the MTA was testing MetroCards while we still carried subway tokens.
Fragrance was changing, too. Bvlgari’s green tea and L’Eau d’Issey’s water-inspired scent had arrived, bringing a fresh perspective to perfume. Tea, citrus and airy compositions felt right with the more pared-back clothes we were wearing. Soon, CK One would make sharing a fragrance part of the conversation.
NY1993 takes me back to being in New York during that shift. Bergamot, sweet orange and green tea connect it to the fragrances of those years. Basil adds an herbal freshness, while smoked sandalwood gives it the depth I wanted for my own interpretation.
